The grass just might be greener on the other side…

As Norwegians we are programmed to brag of the Norwegian nature, and as mountain bikers who love a good trail we like to think we have been blessed in Oslo with the area Oslomarka. However we have read the magazines, and seen the movies, and registered that other places might be entitled to some bragging rights.

So we decided to give France a shot. We knew the wine and the food would be good, but what about the trails? We booked our trip, and settled on a three day guided tour with a base in Les Carroz that would include biking in Avoriaz, Morzine, Les Gets, and Champery. The weather gods weren’t too impressed with our timing and the forecast showed a big storm coming in the second day…so our expectations were modest.

So was the grass greener on the other side? We may have to admit that it is. Together with our guide, Olivier, we had three amazing days of trail riding, spiced with some awesome downhill runs, in stunning scenery. The storm came, but it didn’t really matter because the trails were so much fun (and they didn’t involve as many slippery roots as the Oslo trails do). We all agreed that we had had some of the best trails and runs in our life. And yes; the food and wine was as French wine and food is supposed to be: Absolutely delicious!

Still not convinced?
